 | | SADOLIN COLOURS NEW CHALETS AT CRIEFF HYDRO HOTEL | | | Sadolin | | 28/07/2008 | | | Ten new self catering chalets have been constructed in the grounds of the Crieff Hydro Hotel in Scotland, and thanks to Sadolin Superdec woodstain, they are providing a stunningly eye-catching addition to the hotel.
The timber frame, timber clad two-storey structures were designed by Comrie architects, James Denholm Partnership and combine luxury accommodation with innovative design through colour and materials. Some of the chalets are clad with weatherboarding and all are on a white rendered base course.
The colour scheme was a major consideration and is particularly striking with Sadolin Superdec opaque woodstain applied in a variety of unusual shades, including Volcanic Ash, Limestone Antler Brown for optimum visual impact.
“We used one coat of Superdec off site then applied a second coat on site to allow for the natural movement of the wood,” says Jo Pither, project architect at James Denholm. “Thus we ended up with a beautifully smooth finish in a range of attractive and complementary colours. We have always used the Sadolin brand for its quality and Superdec was the obvious choice due to its performance and appearance.”
The Superdec system of water borne opaque coatings comprises a two-coat application solution offering excellent resistance to weathering and deterioration, suitable for the Scottish climate. It has an alkyd acrylic formulation rendering it highly flexible and resistant to flaking, cracking and peeling, common problems with other wood coating systems. In addition, maintenance requirements are minimised with only a top up coat needed if necessary.
This project comes from the success of a similar scheme to erect 13 chalets in the hotel grounds to provide extra accommodation for guests, which was completed in 2003. | |
