Kingspan Off-Site’s innovative TEK Building System will form the structural basis for a range of modular house types, created by Austins specifically to reach levels 3 to 6 of the Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH). Chosen for its excellent thermal and airtight properties and specification repeatability, the Kingspan TEK Building System has been incorporated into the Aus-Haus models, which use modern methods of construction (MMC) to create affordable homes, under a 4 year Partnering Agreement.

Developed in response to the CSH, the Aus-Haus range comprises a collection of pre-designed one to four bedroom properties and a range of flats. Primarily aimed at local housing associations, the Aus-Haus models are based on standard layouts, with options to achieve different Code levels. Removing the expense of designing individual bespoke houses, the Aus-Haus range reduces the costs and the design lead-in time of a project, releasing capital for renewable technologies and enabling developers to reach higher Code levels.

Simon Powell, Director of Austins, comments: “The Aus-Haus range brings together the best of the off-site MMC market and innovative technology to provide contemporary and affordable homes. As a proven off-site solution, the Kingspan TEK Building System combines speed of build with high levels of thermal efficiency, making it ideal to reach the levels of the Code required by the Aus-Haus designs.”

Selected by Austins to provide design flexibility with fast build times and repeatability, the Kingspan TEK Building System can significantly improve the efficiency of the build process. Off-site manufacturing enables the precision-engineered, pre-insulated timber panels to be delivered to site ready for immediate installation. As a house structure can be assembled in a matter of days, the time spent on site is minimised which reduces the overall time required for each development.

Delivering a U-value of just 0.20W/m2K, the Kingspan TEK Building System also enables homes to be thermally efficient. The excellent air-tightness of the timber frame system, combined with thermal efficiency reduces heating bills and CO2 emissions of residents, which is a key requirement of the CSH.
