 | | ON 1ST OCTOBER 2006, 69% OF MEDIA COMPANIES WILL BE BREAKING THE LAW! | | | MIDAS | | 05/06/2006 | | | MIDAS SEMINAR / AGE DISCRIMINATION /14TH JUNE 2006/ RSA/ 6PM
On 1st October new regulations will come into force that will make it unlawful to discriminate on the grounds of age.
Whilst we take it for granted that it is unlawful to discriminate on the grounds of race or sex, the media industry is rife with age discrimination - both direct and indirect. A recent snapshot survey we carried out clearly demonstrates that 69% of media companies do discriminate even if, at first, they think they don't. In fact many try to justify it, which just proves how entrenched the industry is.
On 14th June 2006 pfj will be presenting the findings of this survey. We have also assembled a panel of experts who will explain how the new regulations will affect you and the steps you need to take to be compliant. In Ireland, where the legislation has already been introduced, 20% of all employment tribunal cases are now age related, costing businesses millions!

Chris Duffy is Employment Partner of Clyde & Co the leading London Law Firm. He will explain what this law means and how it will work in practice and he will give examples of how the lair may be interpreted.
