Leading building services specialist, Powerminster, has picked up a RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Occupational Health & Safety for the fourth year running.

The annual awards recognise businesses of all kinds that have demonstrated a clear commitment to occupational health & safety and excellent health & safety performance across the organisation. The Gold Medal Award can only be achieved by companies that have received the gold award for five consecutive years and Powerminster’s unbroken track record puts them within an elite group of Britain’s most conscientious health & safety compliant companies.

Simon Allen, health, safety and quality manager at Powerminster accepted the award at the Birmingham Hilton Metropole Hotel. He commented: “We are delighted to once again be recognised in this way as an example of best practice. Placing a high priority on health & safety not only drives down accident rates, it sits at the heart of a productive, well-managed business and, at Powerminster, we have worked hard to embed a health & safety culture at all levels throughout the organisation. Winning this accolade for the fourth consecutive year testifies to that commitment and provides a benchmark for ongoing best practice across the company.”

Designed to help motivate organisations to improve their health and safety performance by providing them with targets to aim for, the RoSPA scheme takes into account much more than accident rates. Awards are given based on a broad portfolio of evidence about the level of development and performance of each company’s health & safety management system, including an assessment of the health & safety culture, as well as number of days lost.

David Rawlins, RoSPA awards manager, said, "Powerminster have demonstrated how seriously they take health and safety management and are a fine example to many other companies. We would like to see more organisations follow their lead."
